When K.H. Webb was asked to create a maintenance and storage facility for a private mountain retreat, the client and architects agreed it should be just as beautiful as the other structures on the property and reflect the same modern rustic feel.
The result was the Car Barn, a structure built into the hillside and designed to blend easily into the natural mountain environment, yet spacious enough to store the property’s snow cats, snowmobiles and other recreation equipment. Aspen trees surround the structure, which seems to emerge from the mountain itself with its façade of stone and wood.
In addition to storage for recreation and maintenance equipment, the Car Barn houses an office space in a beautiful and comfortable setting away from family living space in the main house. Details such as old-time gas pumps outside the Car Barn honor the past, while the design and materials honor both the land and the needs of today.
