Gore Creek House Vail, CO
Grand First Impressions Nestled in Nature
A picture perfect location but the need for more functional living space brought about the complete redesign and reengineering of this Vail Valley property. A 9500SF duplex maintained its footprint and received architectural love, care, and attention to maximize its overall living space. The result; A 5-bedroom suite ski home outfitted with 16′ tall sliding glass doors, a wine room, a ski locker, and extended outdoor living space overlooking Vail’s iconic Gore Creek.
This mountain home was conceptualized with one important detail at the forefront; a grand entry. Focusing on its streetside presence, the two-tiered vertical entry was framed with a 12′ glass pivot door, offering those on the outside thought-provoking cues of what the interiors entailed. Above the entry door, we called for a cantilevered steel awning to offer shelter while breaking the verticality of the building’s exterior with a horizontal balance.
The residential path leading inside guides visitors with intention and highlights the importance of its natural surroundings, anchored by surrounding evergreens, native grasses, and a host of plants natural to the mountain environment. Once inside guests are greeted by an open stairwell, three-sided fireplace, a glass-enclosed wine room, and 16′ tall sliding glass doors, seamlessly blending the indoor/outdoor living space along the Valley’s Gore Creek.
